Saudi Arabia consolidates industrial oversight under energy chief
Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman now controls energy, industry, and mineral resources as the kingdom tightens coordination between Vision 2030 pillars.

Saudi Arabia announced that Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman will take on responsibility for the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, consolidating three core economic portfolios under one executive. The move places crude policy, downstream manufacturing, and mining development under unified command for the first time since Vision 2030 began.
The consolidation comes as Riyadh accelerates plans to industrialize its mineral sector and anchor downstream processing capacity inside the kingdom. Saudi Arabia holds large deposits of phosphate, copper, and rare earths but has historically exported raw output. The ministry shift signals intent to compress that value chain and capture processing margin domestically.
Prince Abdulaziz has held the energy portfolio since 2019 and has navigated OPEC+ quota disputes, price volatility, and the kingdom's prolonged production cuts. Adding industry and minerals gives him direct authority over the factories, smelters, and refineries that consume or process the hydrocarbons and ores his ministry also regulates. That eliminates interagency friction on project approvals, feedstock pricing, and infrastructure coordination.
The restructuring follows a pattern of centralizing decision authority in Saudi economic policy. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has repeatedly consolidated ministries and elevated technocrats with crosscutting mandates as the kingdom moves to diversify revenue and attract foreign industrial capital. The energy-industry-minerals triangle is the operational core of that effort, and it now reports through a single chain of command.
