Palanor classification of USPTO patent assignment recordations, by the month the USPTO recorded them. A transfer is company to company when every assignor and the receiving party are organizations; transfers inside one group (same leading name on both sides) are counted separately as intra-group. Counted in patents and applications, so one portfolio sale can move a month. AI-classified means the application carries a CPC symbol in G06N (machine learning, neural networks, knowledge-based systems). Quarterly average of the monthly shares.
Whether AI patents are becoming a bigger part of the technology companies trade. The line is the share of patents and applications moving between companies that are classed as AI.
