Openings: 47,556 in Jun 2026+3,115 since Jun 2025

Plays the chart through its history. Pauses are where the data set a record or moved most.

Continuation isn't available for Openings: Last observation was 144 days ago — too stale to project.

Statistics Canada, table 33-10-0270-01, experimental estimates, seasonally adjusted (Statistics Canada Open Licence). Businesses with at least one employee; an opening is a business with employees this month that had none last month, including reopenings, and a closure the reverse, including temporary ones. Not comparable with U.S. establishment births and deaths, which are annual, per location and permanent.

Statistics Canada's monthly count of employer businesses opening and closing. Closures spiked in spring 2020 as lockdowns began and openings spiked as the economy reopened; since then the two lines show whether the business population is growing.
