Dashed: the projection from the latest reading. Shaded: the range about two in three outcomes land in. A projection, not a promise.
CDC National Center for Health Statistics, final death-certificate data via CDC WONDER: U.S. residents aged 1 to 19, by underlying cause of death. Firearms, poisoning, suffocation and drowning count every intent. Motor-vehicle crashes count traffic and non-traffic crashes of every intent. Rates per 100,000 people aged 1 to 19 are in the library (health.cdc.death_rate_1_19).
Two of the leading causes of death for U.S. children and teenagers, counted the same way every year since 1999.
