HSR Merger Filings per Month
Transactions reported to the FTC and DOJ under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act, each month
Plays the chart through its history. Pauses are where the data set a record or moved most.
Federal fiscal years, October to September, from the FTC and DOJ annual reports, which arrive about a year after each year ends. The filing threshold rose sharply in February 2001 and has been indexed every year since 2005. Filings were pulled forward ahead of the new HSR form in February 2025 and dropped right after it.
The merger cycle month by month from the agencies' own tables: the collapses of 2001 and 2008 and the surge of 2021 stand out.
