Plays the chart through its history. Pauses are where a new leader takes first place.

Palanor calculation. Each age group’s spending basket from the BLS Consumer Expenditure Surveys (age of the household’s reference person), repriced with CPI-U component indexes, reweighted every year with a two-year lag as the CPI does. Owner housing is priced by owners’ equivalent rent. Generations by birth year as of the latest survey year. Above zero, the group’s basket rose more than the average household’s.

Which age groups have faced more inflation than the average household since 2019, and which less, because of what they buy. Both sides are priced the same way, so the gap is about the basket, not the method.
