New Legal Entity Identifiers, U.S. and UK
LEIs first issued each month to entities with a legal address in the United States or the United Kingdom
Plays the chart through its history. Pauses are where the data set a record or moved most.
Palanor count of Legal Entity Identifiers by the month each was first issued, from GLEIF data (CC0). Duplicate and annulled records are left out. An LEI is needed to trade, issue securities or file many regulatory reports, so registrations follow rules as well as business formation. Registrations jumped before the EU’s MiFID II rules took effect.
New legal entities entering the financial system: companies, funds and vehicles that register for the identifier they need to trade or report.
