Subsidiaries and what ladders up

Link one organization beneath another. Both sides agree, the subsidiary decides what it shares, and the parent reads shared items read-only, labelled by origin.

Updated 2026-10-22

A subsidiary is an organization linked beneath another, its parent. Each stays a full organization with its own members, morning edition, scenarios and settings. The link only decides what the parent can read.

Linking

An owner or admin of either organization asks, on Settings → Subsidiaries & sharing: Link a subsidiary (this organization becomes the parent) or Join a parent organization. Name the other organization by its address (the part after app.palanor.com/) or by the email of one of its owners or admins. An owner or admin of the other organization accepts or declines; the request waits in their bell under Needs you. A subsidiary has one parent at a time, and a link can't run in a circle.

Either side's owners or admins can end the link at any time; the parent stops seeing anything at once.

What ladders up

Nothing is shared until the subsidiary's owners or admins turn a switch on, on Settings → Sharing with your parent. Each switch covers one kind of item:

  • Scenarios + Futures: listed on the parent's Scenarios and Futures pages in a group named for the subsidiary.
  • Followed signals + Signal Sets: on the parent's Signal Watch. A parent admin may follow one of those signals, which copies it into the parent's own lattice; the page says so. A subsidiary's own internal signals are never shared.
  • Morning edition stories: at the end of the parent's morning edition page. They are never read aloud in the parent's CompanyCast.
  • Board Gateway pack: the scenarios the subsidiary opened to its own board. The parent's admins choose which to include in the parent's pack (Settings → Board Gateway → Visibility); directors see them labelled.
  • Reports: the subsidiary's report editions, under the parent's Reports.
  • Members list: names and roles only, on the parent's Subsidiaries & sharing page.

The parent can end the link but can never turn a switch on. Turning a switch off removes that kind of item from the parent's view at once.

How the parent sees it

Shared items are read-only and carry a small chip with the subsidiary's name. They never enter the parent's own lists, counts, scores or lattice math. Opening one goes to the subsidiary's own page when you are a member there too; otherwise to a read-only view, with no actions. Numen in the parent organization can read what is shared and always names where it came from; it never changes anything in a subsidiary.

In the menu, a parent shows a Subsidiaries section (each one marked ladders up when anything is shared, or separate). A subsidiary's home page reads "part of" its parent, and the scope switcher lists it beneath its parent.
