Distress

Bankruptcy and receivership 8-Ks, debt accelerations, material impairments, going-concern doubts, lender forbearance and credit agreement amendments, from SEC filings.

Updated 2026-10-24

Distress is a Tracker of the distress events companies report to the SEC. It is at app.palanor.com/trackers/distress. In your organization, members reach it through My Tracker, the Trackers row in the menu (app.palanor.com/<your organization>/trackers): its feed reads this tracker through your organization's scope, and every public tracker is listed below the feed.

What is in it (from 2019)

One row per filing, named by its most serious event, with any other events the same filing reports beside it:

  • Bankruptcy or receivership: 8-K Item 1.03.
  • Debt acceleration: 8-K Item 2.04, any event that accelerates or increases a debt obligation, including a default. It does not always mean a payment was missed.
  • Going-concern doubt: a 10-K or 10-Q in which the auditor or management concludes there is substantial doubt about the company's ability to continue for a year.
  • Forbearance or waiver: a lender agreeing not to act on a default for a time, or waiving one.
  • Material impairment: 8-K Item 2.06.
  • Credit agreement amendment: an 8-K whose text amends a credit or loan agreement, indenture or note purchase agreement.

Items 1.03, 2.04 and 2.06 are structured data on every 8-K, so they cover every SEC filer. Going-concern doubt, forbearance or waivers and amendments are read by rules from the filing text of the companies Palanor tracks (S&P 500, Russell 1000, S&P MidCap 400); amendments from late 2023.

What it is not

A filing reports an event; it does not say what happens next. Amendments and impairments are routine for many companies. Nothing here estimates whether a company will default or fail.

Follow and alerts

Follow on a row watches that company; Follow this view watches the filters you have set. The rules under the table are shortcuts to the Alerts center, where you can change the numbers. A row counts when it first loads and only if it is dated within 45 days of that, so older filings loaded later never flood you. Alerts arrive in the bell, by email or on your phone, inside your quiet hours and limits. See [Alerts center](/help/modules/alerts-center).

Companies, downloads and the API

Rows are linked to companies by SEC CIK, or by name under the company graph's conservative rules; a linked subsidiary's rows also reach its listed parent. A company's Dossier has a Trackers panel with its rows. Rows download as CSV with a Pro or Enterprise API key or a full seat on Palanor Enterprise, and come through the API at /v1/trackers/distress and the MCP tool palanor_tracker (rows whose source allows redistribution only). Numen can read the tracker too.
