Beside a signal's latest value, a chart's headline and an index reading there is a small Explain button. Press it, or type EXPLAIN followed by a signal in a command bar, and a panel opens with six parts.
The six parts
- Source. Who publishes the data, its licence, whether its files can be downloaded, how often it updates, and a link to the source.
- How it's computed. Whether Palanor stores the number as published or builds it (an index, a composite, or arithmetic on a chart's series), with the components and the methodology's own words.
- Where it stands. The same reading of the record as the Where it stands panel: percentile, record, highest or lowest since, and changes.
- Forecast. Palanor Foresight™'s projection with its band, the engine version, how many lattice partners fed it, and this signal's scored record: how often Foresight beat no change and how often the outcome landed inside the band. A signal Foresight holds at its last value says so. Signed-out visitors see this part after creating a free account.
- What usually moves it. Signals that have led this one in the monthly lead lattice, with the lead in months and the error cut in walk-forward tests (since 21 Oct 2026, only signals from the same field or a related one: energy with commodities, labor with the economy, rates with credit, and so on), and signals that move with it in the correlation engine, with the window and any lag in days. When nothing qualifies, the panel says so plainly.
- In the news. News-board stories tied to the signal in the last 60 days.
Facts only
Every line comes from data Palanor stores. No part of the panel is written by a model. The facts are built once a day per signal and cached, so the panel opens quickly.
Keyboard
Esc closes the panel. 1 to 6 jump to a part.
