How CompanyCast is made

CompanyCast is researched, edited and voiced by AI. What each step does, and why to treat it as a briefing to verify.

Updated 2026-10-15

CompanyCast is an audio briefing made for your organization each weekday morning, entirely by AI. No one at Palanor edits an episode before you hear it. It reports the news but can make mistakes, misstate figures or misattribute statements. Treat it as a briefing to verify, not a source of record.

The steps

  • Planning. The Desk researches two to four beats plus your organization itself. Your owners and admins can set the beats themselves (see below). Once a week an AI planner drafts any beat your team hasn't set. It reads first what your team said it should be watching, then your company profile (what you do, markets, priorities, risks, competitors) and your Context News settings (the sources you read first, your watchlist).
  • Reporting. Each weekday morning, AI researchers search the live web on each beat and on your company and its competitors. They use Grok (xAI) through OpenRouter, with Perplexity as the fallback. They look at the last 36 hours, and also see the stories in Palanor's own feeds that rank highest for you.
  • Verification. A story is kept only if a source the search actually retrieved backs it, or it came from Palanor's own feeds. The editor compares figures with Palanor's signal data for your organization and drops a story whose figure disagrees. What can't be confirmed is left out and listed at the bottom of the morning edition.
  • Editing. Claude Sonnet 4.5 (Anthropic) picks six to ten stories and links each to your scenarios, futures and signals. Each beat carries up to two stories, or three for the priority beat. A beat with nothing strong that day gets no filler; its place goes to the busiest beats, never more than three to one beat. Links that don't match real ones in your workspace are removed.
  • The voices. The Palanor Council, named AI correspondents with their own beats, discuss the stories using only the facts in the edition. Figures are written out as words; ElevenLabs voices each section in English; every section is checked for speaking speed, and an episode that fails the check is held back.

Setting the beats

Owners and admins set the beats in Settings → Context News, under "What the Desk covers every morning". Everyone else in your organization can read them there.

  • What should your whole team be watching? Say it in your own words. The planner reads this before anything else.
  • Edit, add or remove a beat. A beat your team writes is kept: the weekly draft never replaces it. Hand back to the Desk lets the planner redraft it.
  • Remove a beat to run one fewer. The weekly draft won't fill that slot again; add a beat when you want it back. Suggest beats can still offer one to add.
  • Keep a beat the Desk drafted to stop it changing.
  • Make priority on the beat that matters most. It may carry up to three stories in an edition; the others carry up to two. There is one priority beat at a time.
  • Suggest beats asks the planner for new ones. They wait under "Suggested by the Desk" until you accept or decline them. Nothing changes until you do.
  • Your organization is the brief for news about you: what counts, and the names to search for.

There are two to four beats. Each one is a separate research step every morning, so fewer beats cost less, and the Desk needs at least two to make an edition worth reading. On a quiet day a beat with nothing strong gets no filler: its place goes to the beats with the most news. Every change is recorded with who made it and when, under "Recent changes" and in your organization's audit log.

Your first listen

The first time you press play on the web, Palanor asks you to confirm you understand CompanyCast is AI-generated and can contain errors. It asks once and records it with your account. Shared listen links show the same notice above the player.

When and where

The build starts at 10:15 UTC on weekdays and takes a few minutes. Every episode has a written transcript under "In this cast". Numen doesn't write or voice CompanyCast. To report a mistake, use Report a problem at the bottom of the CompanyCast page.
