Layoff Tracker

Every WARN Act notice in the states whose lists Palanor may show, linked to listed companies and their 8-K restructuring filings: filter it, follow a company, a state or a view, and see what is announced but not yet effective.

Updated 2026-10-23

The Layoff Tracker is the first Tracker: a page for a record of events, each with a date, a company or place and a size. Its events are WARN Act notices. It is in the Terminal at app.palanor.com/trackers/layoffs and in your organization under Explore → Trackers. It shows public records only, never your organization's data.

What a WARN notice is

The federal WARN Act requires employers with 100 or more employees to give 60 days' notice, to the workers and to the state, of a plant closing or a mass layoff that affects at least 50 workers at one site (with further thresholds). Some states set lower thresholds. Each state publishes the notices it receives, in its own format, and Palanor reads those lists.

A notice is filed before the layoff happens, so the tracker shows what employers have announced and not yet carried out: a notice is Announced while its first separation date is still ahead and Effective once it has passed.

What it is not

It is not every layoff. Employers below the thresholds, smaller layoffs, layoffs spread across sites, and states Palanor does not read or may not show are not in it. A notice records what the employer expected when it filed: the separations can be fewer, later, spread over months, or withdrawn. Cancelled notices stay in the table, marked, and are left out of every count.

Which states

The Coverage section at the foot of the page lists every state and DC: whether Palanor reads its list, from when, and whether its rows are shown. A state's rows are shown only when its published terms allow reuse. States whose terms say nothing about reuse are read but kept private until the agency confirms reuse in writing; states whose terms forbid reuse, or whose sites block automated reading, are not read, and the reason is listed. Every row links to the state's own list.

The table

Filter by state, industry (where the state lists one), status, notice dates, size, or Public companies only, and search by company, ticker or city. Click a column heading to sort. Every filter lives in the address, so a link opens the same view. Tab moves through the filters, the headings and the rows; Enter applies.

The summary above the table counts notices and workers in the last 7 and 30 days and the workers due in the next 90 days. States that list only a posting month, not a notice day, join the monthly figures and the 90-day figure, not the 7- and 30-day counts.

Companies and 8-K filings

Employers are linked to listed companies by name, under the company graph's conservative rules: the normalized legal name must match one listed company, or one U.S. entity whose parent is listed. A bare common word never links (a notice from an employer named only "Delta" is not Delta Air Lines), and a franchisee's "dba" brand is never matched. Unlinked employers are kept as filed.

A listed company that commits to an exit or disposal plan, including a workforce reduction, reports it on Form 8-K under Item 2.05. When a company's WARN notice falls between 14 days before and 90 days after such a filing, the two are linked as one action and counted once, with the WARN workers. The company's Dossier has a Layoffs panel with its notices, its Item 2.05 filings and the links between them. In the command bar, type layoffs for the tracker, or a ticker and LAYOFFS (for example INTC LAYOFFS) for one company.

Follow and alerts

Follow on a row watches that company. Follow this view watches the filters you have set. Under the table, rules alert on any notice with 500 or more workers, or, with one state picked, when the workers due there in the next 90 days rise more than 25% above their 13-week average. You can change the numbers in the Alerts center. Tracker alerts arrive in the bell, by email or on your phone like every other alert, inside your quiet hours and limits. See [Alerts center](/help/modules/alerts-center).

Charts, series and downloads

The tracker's charts come from its own series: WARN workers and notices per week and per month across a fixed panel of shown states, workers due in the next 30, 90 and 180 days, workers by state, and 8-K Item 2.05 filings per month and quarter for every SEC filer and for S&P 500 companies. Each series' methodology names the states it reads. Rows download as CSV with a Pro or Enterprise API key, or a full seat on Palanor Enterprise, and through the API at /v1/trackers/layoffs and the MCP tool palanor_layoff_tracker.

WARN notices are public records filed by employers. Nothing in the tracker is a forecast or advice.
