Palanor carries the International Monetary Fund's World Economic Outlook (WEO) database for every economy and IMF group it covers. The IMF publishes it twice a year, in April and October. Each series names the edition it comes from.
The series
- History and projection. For each measure and economy there are two series: the history up to the year before the edition, and the IMF's projection from three years earlier to the end of the edition's horizon (five years out). The measures are real GDP growth, inflation, unemployment, GDP in US dollars, GDP at purchasing-power parity, GDP per person (in dollars and at PPP), the current account, general government gross and net debt, the overall and primary budget balances, revenue and spending.
- Net interest paid (% of GDP) is a Palanor calculation, labelled as one on every chart and signal. It is the IMF's primary balance minus its overall balance, which is what a government pays in interest net of what it earns on its assets. The IMF does not publish it as a series.
- Forecasts by edition. For large economies and the IMF groups, Palanor also keeps what each edition expected for this year and next. Growth forecast revisions cover every economy: the newest edition's forecast for a year minus the previous edition's forecast for the same year. Revisions are also a Palanor calculation.
- Country fiscal gaps. Palanor's country panel takes general government debt and budget figures from the OECD where it publishes them. For panel countries it doesn't publish, including Chile, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, China and the Gulf states, the country series come from the WEO and say so.
How projections are shown
Projections are the IMF's own published forecasts. On a chart they are dashed, in the colour of the history they continue, and labelled with the edition, for example "IMF forecast · Oct 2026". Palanor never projects them further. They are never Foresight inputs, and no statistics or records are computed on them. Each Country Dossier has an IMF panel with the latest year and the IMF's forecasts.
Editions and updates
Each edition is loaded once, from the database file the IMF publishes. A person downloads it and Palanor loads it. Nothing collects IMF data automatically. A health check flags an April or October edition that is out and not yet loaded. When a new edition is loaded, every projection is replaced and the history is restated as the IMF revised it. Earlier editions are kept, so revisions can be read later.
Source and terms
Source: IMF World Economic Outlook Database, with the edition named on each display. Transformations by Palanor are stated where they occur: net interest paid, revisions and unit conversions (billions, millions). Palanor does not use WEO data to train models.
