Methodology
## What this measures
The change in South Africa's residential property prices from a year earlier, after inflation, from the BIS selected property price series (national sources).
## Why it matters
House prices drive household wealth and bank collateral; real changes show whether housing is getting dearer relative to everything else.
## How to read it
Real prices rose 1.2% in the year to the second quarter of 2026. The series runs back to 1967.
## What it does not say
National averages hide large differences between cities, and coverage of the underlying index differs by country.
