Brazil Real Effective Exchange Rate
Latest
116.46index (2020=100)
Methodology
## What this measures
The value of Brazil's currency against a broad basket of trading partners, weighted by trade and adjusted for differences in inflation. Index, 2020 = 100.
## Why it matters
It measures competitiveness: a rising index makes exports dearer and imports cheaper.
## How to read it
Higher means a stronger currency in real terms. It read 116.5 in August 2026, up from 110.4 a year earlier; its high was 183.3 in July 2011 and its low 70.1 in October 2002.
## What it does not say
It is not the rate against the dollar, and an index level has no "right" value on its own.
