Methodology
## What this measures
The market yield on the Government of Canada 10-year benchmark bond.
## Why it matters
Long yields set the base for fixed-rate borrowing, and 5-year mortgage rates follow the 5- and 10-year yields closely.
## How to read it
Compare with the U.S. 10-year: Canadian yields usually trade below U.S. yields, and the gap moves the Canadian dollar. The monthly OECD series is rates.gov10y.can.
## What it does not say
It is one benchmark bond; it does not show provincial or corporate borrowing costs.
