Canada Business Insolvencies

344filings per month
Methodology
## What this measures
The number of Canadian businesses (corporations and sole proprietors) that filed for bankruptcy or made a proposal in the month.
## Why it matters
Business failures rise when credit tightens, pandemic-era loans come due or demand falls, and they lead job losses at small firms.
## How to read it
Compare with a year earlier. Filings rose sharply in 2024 as Canada Emergency Business Account loans came due.
## What it does not say
Counts are not seasonally adjusted (January and March run high); read 12-month totals or year-over-year changes. Filings are counted when they are made, not when debts went bad.
