Methodology
## What this measures
The number of people in Canada aged 15 and over who worked in the reference week, employees and self-employed together, seasonally adjusted.
## Why it matters
It is the monthly jobs number Canada reports, usually on the same Friday as the U.S. payroll report.
## How to read it
Compare the change over three or twelve months with population growth: recent immigration has made a monthly gain of tens of thousands the level needed just to keep the employment rate steady.
## What it does not say
It comes from the Labour Force Survey, a household survey of about 65,000 households, so one month's change carries sampling error; read three-month moves. It does not count people on reserves or in the territories.
