Alberta Unemployment Rate

Latest

6.4%

Methodology

## What this measures

The share of people aged 15 and over in Alberta's labour force who have no job and are looking for one, seasonally adjusted.

## Why it matters

Alberta's job market moves with oil and gas prices and has drawn record interprovincial migration since 2022. Provinces move apart on commodity prices and trade, so the national rate hides real differences.

## How to read it

Compare with the national rate (canada.lfs.unemployment_rate). A gap that widens shows a regional shock.

## What it does not say

Provincial estimates come from a smaller sample than the national figure, so monthly moves of a few tenths are noise; read three-month changes.

## Source

Statistics Canada, table 14-10-0287-01 (vector v2064516), "Labour force characteristics, monthly, seasonally adjusted; Alberta; Unemployment rate; Total - Gender; 15 years and over". Palanor pulls it from Statistics Canada's Web Data Service every day and rewrites recent periods so revisions carry through.
