Canada New Housing Price Index

Latest

120.4index (Dec 2016=100)

Methodology

## What this measures

The price contractors charge for comparable new single-family houses, including land, across Canada.

## Why it matters

It is the only official, open, monthly house-price series for Canada; the main resale price indexes (CREA, Teranet) are licensed products.

## How to read it

Compare with a year earlier. New-home prices have been flat to falling since 2022 as higher rates cut demand, even with the housing shortage.

## What it does not say

It covers newly built homes from the same builders, not resale homes (which make up most sales) and not condominiums. It is not seasonally adjusted.
