Oracle capex (trailing 12 months)

Methodology
## What this measures
Oracle's capital expenditure over the trailing four fiscal quarters, in billions of dollars. Capital expenditure represents cash spent on property and equipment.
## Background
Oracle's capital expenditure over the trailing four fiscal quarters, $ billions.
Cash purchases of property and equipment from the company's 10-Q and 10-K filings (SEC EDGAR XBRL, us-gaap PaymentsToAcquirePropertyPlantAndEquipment or PaymentsToAcquireProductiveAssets, whichever the company currently files). Cash-flow statements are year-to-date, so quarters are derived by differencing within each fiscal year; the fourth quarter is the annual figure minus nine months. Excludes assets acquired under finance leases, which Microsoft and Amazon add to their headline capex, so these read below company press releases. Synced weekly by /api/cron/edgar-capex-sync.
## Why it matters
Sustained increases in capex signal expansion of physical infrastructure, including data centers that support cloud services and AI workloads. Changes in spending patterns can indicate shifts in Oracle's competitive posture in enterprise software and infrastructure markets, affecting partners, customers evaluating platform commitments, and suppliers in the data center ecosystem.
## How to read it
A rise indicates Oracle is increasing investment in physical assets; a fall suggests reduced or slower expansion. Because the measure covers four quarters, it smooths seasonal variation and reflects the current pace of capital deployment. Compare levels and trends to peers and to Oracle's revenue growth to assess intensity of infrastructure buildout.
## What it does not say
This does not capture operating expenses, software development costs, acquisitions, or assets acquired under finance leases. It shows only cash purchases of property and equipment, so it understates total capital deployment as reported in company announcements.
