Methodology
## What this measures
The number of people living in the Antofagasta Region, in thousands, whose main job is in mining and quarrying (CAENES section B), from INE's Encuesta Nacional de Empleo, as a rolling three-month average published monthly.
## Why it matters
Antofagasta has the largest concentration of mining jobs in Chile. This series shows directly how many people in the region the industry employs, and how that changes with new projects, expansions and closures.
## How to read it
Higher means more mining jobs in the region. Compare it with the region's total employment to see mining's share, and with its unemployment rate.
## What it does not say
The survey counts people where they live, so workers who commute in from other regions on rotating shifts are counted in their home region. A regional estimate with sampling error. Contractors classified to other industries are not included.
