Atacama Region Mining Employment (Chile, INE)

Latest

28.44thousand persons

Methodology

## What this measures

The number of people living in the Atacama Region, in thousands, whose main job is in mining and quarrying (CAENES section B), from INE's Encuesta Nacional de Empleo, as a rolling three-month average published monthly.

## Why it matters

Mining is the largest employer in Atacama's private economy. The series shows how mine construction, expansions and closures change local employment.

## How to read it

Higher means more mining jobs in the region. Read it with the region's unemployment rate.

## What it does not say

The survey counts people where they live, so commuting workers count in their home region. A small regional sample, so single months can be noise. Contractors classified to other industries are not included.

Changes made by Palanor: each rolling quarter is dated to its last month (June–August 2026 is dated August 2026) and values are rounded to two decimals; INE's reliability flags are kept with each observation. This is not an INE product, and INE does not endorse Palanor's use of it.
