Methodology

## What this measures

The size of Kazakhstan's economy at market exchange rates: gross domestic product in current U.S. dollars, billions, each year.

## Why it matters

Scale: for weighting a country in a portfolio, a supply chain or a market-sizing exercise, and for ranking economies by size.

## How to read it

Moves with the exchange rate as much as with output; a falling currency shrinks dollar GDP even when the economy grows. Use real GDP growth for the economy's pace.

## What it does not say

It does not adjust for prices or purchasing power, and the latest year is often an estimate that is revised.
