Methodology

## What this measures

Of every unit Mexico's general government spends, the share that goes to creditors as net interest. Palanor derives it as net interest payments ÷ total disbursements, both in national currency.

## Why it matters

This is the number that decides budgets. When interest takes a tenth of spending, every other line item is negotiating with the bond market.

## How to read it

Rising means refinancing is catching up with rates. Compare across countries — this is the right-hand column of the OECD's government-debt-cost ranking.

## What it does not say

It is net of interest received, so countries with large financial assets can read near zero or negative despite high gross debt.

## Source

Source: OECD Economic Outlook (CC BY 4.0), general government, annual. Palanor reads the standard definition where the OECD publishes one and the country-specific definition otherwise; points carry `definition: country-specific` in their metadata when the latter applies.
