Methodology
## What this measures
The share of people in Netherlands living in urban areas, as each country defines them, one value per year.
## Why it matters
Urbanization tracks the move from farm to factory and services; it shapes demand for housing, infrastructure and energy.
## How to read it
Higher means more of the population lives in cities. It rises fast during industrialization and flattens near 80–90%.
## What it does not say
National definitions of "urban" differ, so levels compare loosely across countries. Values are UN estimates that move smoothly between censuses.
