Methodology

## What this measures

How fast consumer prices in Sweden rose over the year, on average.

## Why it matters

Inflation erodes debt in real terms but raises the rate at which it is refinanced; persistent inflation is a tax on savers and a signal about institutional credibility.

## How to read it

Around 2% is the rich-world target; readings far above it — or below zero — both indicate strain.

## What it does not say

An annual average hides the path within the year. Official CPI can understate inflation where prices are controlled.
