Methodology
## What this measures
Cases commenced with a predominantly business nature of debt, all chapters, in the three months ending the quarter. From the Administrative Office of the US Courts' Table F-2 (three-month edition), the official count.
## Why it matters
The court system's own tally. Slower than Epiq's monthly release but authoritative, and it counts every business chapter (7, 11, 13, 12), not just Chapter 11.
## How to read it
Seasonal — Q1 runs high. Compare against the same quarter a year earlier.
## What it does not say
Published roughly six weeks after quarter end. Nature-of-debt classification is the filer's, so some small-business Chapter 7s are recorded as nonbusiness.
