Credit Card Balances Turning Seriously Delinquent, Ages 18–29 (NY Fed)
Latest
10.08% of balance
Methodology
## What this measures
The percent of credit card balances of borrowers aged 18 to 29 that transitioned into 90 or more days delinquent, as a four-quarter moving sum.
## Why it matters
Young borrowers have thinner savings and credit files, so card stress tends to show up in their balances first and hardest.
## How to read it
Higher is worse. Compare with the all-ages rate (credit.hhdc.flow_serious_cc) to see whether stress is concentrated among the young.
## What it does not say
A four-quarter moving sum, so it smooths and lags quarterly changes. Age comes from birth year on the credit file.
