Auto Loan Balances 90+ Days Delinquent · Quarterly (NY Fed)

Latest

5.49%

Methodology

## What this measures

The share of outstanding auto loan balances 90 or more days past due, New York Fed Consumer Credit Panel / Equifax.

## Why it matters

People pay the car before the card — it gets them to work. When auto delinquency rises alongside card delinquency, the stress has reached the essentials.

## How to read it

Against its own history: 5% is the 2010 peak region. Direction over four quarters.

## What it does not say

No split by lender type; subprime auto stress in captive and specialty lenders is diluted by bank and credit union paper.

## Source

Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Quarterly Report on Household Debt and Credit (data xlsx, Page 12). Public.
