Ireland Mentions on S&P 500 Earnings Calls

Methodology
## What this measures
The share of S&P 500 companies that named Ireland at least once on their earnings calls in the trailing 90 days, in percent of companies. One call per company per calendar quarter; S&P 500 members on the reading date.
## Why it matters
When a country comes up on more calls, more of America's largest companies are talking to investors about it: as a market, a supplier, a place they build, or a risk. It moved sharply in early 2025 as tariffs on Canada and Mexico were announced.
## How to read it
Higher means more companies named the country. Every company counts once, whether it named the country once or fifty times. Read it against its own past rather than against other countries: some countries are simply where more S&P 500 companies sell.
## What it does not say
It says a country came up, not whether the company saw it as an opportunity or a threat, and it is not a measure of revenue or exposure. Names only are counted ("Mexico", not "Mexican"), so it undercounts a little.
## How it is counted
The country names and exclusions were fixed before any document was counted (pre-registered in `src/lib/country-mentions/lists.ts`, 2026-10-21). Names are matched case-sensitively and whole-word, and phrases that contain a country name but are not the country are excluded (New Mexico, Gulf of Mexico, Northern Ireland, Canada Goose, Canada Dry, Tour de France and others). A hand check of about 220 documents found four such phrases, which were added before any reading was published (list version 2). No language model is used. A country's series is published only when on average at least 1% of companies named it from 2022 through 2025; a window with fewer than 150 companies writes nothing.
