Methodology
## What this measures
Mean count of substantive AI / generative AI / agent / LLM mentions per document, trailing 90 days.
## Why it matters
The AI narrative's penetration into the boardroom, measured by what the boardroom said — a Current-level read of belief.
## How to read it
A rising value means management teams are discussing AI-related topics more frequently in their communications. Compare the current level to earlier periods to assess whether boardroom attention to AI is intensifying or cooling. Higher mentions per document suggest greater strategic focus or operational relevance.
## What it does not say
This signal counts only that AI was mentioned, not whether the discussion was optimistic, skeptical, or material to the business. It does not measure actual deployment, investment, or revenue impact from AI initiatives.
## Source
Palanor derives this signal from management discourse documents. The source is discourse; the series identifier is discourse.mentions.ai.
## Revision — 2026-09-26
Universe updated to current S&P 500 constituents (8 out, 3 in). Out: Builders FirstSource, Molson Coors and The Trade Desk, which left the index on 21 September 2026; Electronic Arts, which was taken private and left on 5 August 2026; and MongoDB, Cloudflare, Snowflake and Zoom, which were never members and had been included in error since May 2026. In: Bloom Energy, Everpure and Illumina, which joined on 21 September 2026. Membership now comes from a dated constituent list refreshed monthly. The corrected list applies from 26 September 2026. Readings before that date are unchanged.
