Jet Fuel Wholesale Price · Gulf Coast (spot)

Latest

4.5$/gal

Methodology

## What this measures

The wholesale spot price of kerosene-type jet fuel on the US Gulf Coast, free on board, in dollars per gallon, averaged over the week. This is the price refiners and traders deal at, before transport, distribution margins and taxes.

## Why it matters

Wholesale prices move first. A rise here reaches pump prices, freight surcharges and airline fuel costs within weeks, so it is the earliest public read on where jet fuel costs are heading for businesses that buy it in bulk.

## How to read it

Higher means more expensive. The spread between this price and crude oil (in the same units: divide the crude price per barrel by 42) is the refining margin for jet fuel; a widening spread means product supply, not crude, is driving costs.

## What it does not say

It excludes taxes, freight and distribution margins, so it sits well below retail prices. It is one delivery point and one grade; other hubs and contract prices differ.
