Magnificent Seven Share of the S&P 500
Latest
34.14% of S&P 500 market value
Methodology
## What this measures
The market value of the seven largest U.S. technology companies as a share of the market value of every company in the S&P 500.
## Why it matters
Concentration this high means a fund that tracks the S&P 500 is, in practice, a large bet on a few companies. It also means news about AI spending, antitrust or one company's earnings can move the whole index.
## How to read it
The share was 20.6% at the end of 2022 and 34.9% on October 8, 2026.
## What it does not say
It covers today's S&P 500 members back in time, using each company's current share count, so earlier readings leave out companies that have since left the index and ignore buybacks and new issuance. It is total market value, not the index's float-adjusted weight.
