Methodology
## What this measures
The share-price performance of 38 U.S.-listed semiconductor companies, weighted by market value: chip designers and makers plus the equipment and materials companies that supply them.
## Why it matters
It separates what chip stocks did from what new listings added. The market value series rises when a company lists; this index moves only with prices.
## How to read it
100 is the value on January 4, 2021. Each day's change is the change in the combined value of the companies that traded on both days, so a new listing joins without a jump.
## What it does not say
Dividends are not included. Weights use current share counts. Taiwan Semiconductor, Samsung, SK hynix and Tokyo Electron are not included.
