Semiconductor Companies' Share of the S&P 500
Latest
15.37% of S&P 500 market value
Methodology
## What this measures
The market value of today's S&P 500 members that make chips or chipmaking equipment, as a percent of the market value of every company in the S&P 500.
## Why it matters
A fund that tracks the S&P 500 is now partly a bet on semiconductors. This is how large that bet is.
## How to read it
Percent of the index's total market value. Companies outside the S&P 500 (Arm, ASML and smaller chipmakers) are left out of the numerator.
## What it does not say
It uses today's S&P 500 members and current share counts back in time. It is total market value, not the index's float-adjusted weight.
