New Job Postings on Indeed in the United States

Methodology

## What this measures

Postings on Indeed that are seven days old or less — the freshest read on new hiring intent.

## Why it matters

Job postings are the demand side of the labor market before it shows up in payrolls. A posting is a decision to hire that has not yet become a hire; when the count falls, hiring slows a quarter later. Sector cuts are where the floor gives way first.

## How to read it

Level is relative to February 1, 2020. The direction over 30–90 days matters more than the level. Read the sector series against the total: a sector falling while the total holds is a sector story, not a cycle story.

## What it does not say

Postings are not hires, and Indeed's share of the posting market shifts. This is a demand pulse, not a payroll count.
