## What this measures
This signal tracks the number of Malaysian ringgit required to purchase one US dollar, updated each business day. It reflects the market exchange rate between the two currencies.
## Why it matters
The ringgit–dollar rate affects the cost of Malaysian imports, the revenue from Malaysian operations when translated back to dollars, and the competitiveness of goods priced in either currency. Organizations with Malaysian suppliers, customers or subsidiaries see margin and cash flow shift as the rate moves.
## How to read it
The value is quoted in ringgit per dollar, so a rise means the ringgit has weakened and a fall means it has strengthened. Compare the current level to recent ranges or to rates at the time contracts were signed to gauge currency exposure.
## What it does not say
It does not indicate why the rate moved, the size of traded volumes behind the price, or where the rate will settle in coming weeks.
