U.S. Real GDP Growth (Quarterly, Annualized)
Latest
2.2% q/q annualized
Methodology
## What this measures
How fast the U.S. economy grew in a quarter after inflation, expressed as an annual rate: the headline GDP number.
## Why it matters
Every AI economic scenario is defined partly by growth. A lasting move above the post-war norm would be the clearest macro sign that AI is changing the economy's speed.
## How to read it
Single quarters swing widely; read several quarters together and compare with the GDPNow and New York Fed nowcasts (macro.nowcast.gdpnow_qoq_saar, macro.nowcast.nyfed_qoq_saar).
## What it does not say
It doesn't separate growth from building AI (data centers, chips) from growth from using it. Early estimates are revised.
