Personal Savings Rate

Methodology
## What this measures
This measures personal saving as a percentage of disposable personal income on a monthly basis. Personal saving is income remaining after subtracting outlays and taxes, representing funds available for capital markets or real investment such as residences.
## Why it matters
The savings rate signals how much households retain versus spend, which affects consumer demand, credit conditions, and the depth of capital available for business investment. A sustained shift in this rate can reshape the environment for revenue growth, financing costs, and the stability of household balance sheets that underpin many markets.
## How to read it
A rising rate means households are saving more of their income and spending less; a falling rate means the opposite. Compare the current level to its range over recent years to assess whether household behavior is unusually cautious or expansive.
## What it does not say
This does not break out saving by income group, does not capture wealth changes from asset prices, and does not indicate where saved funds are deployed. It reflects aggregated behavior, not the financial position of any specific household segment.
