Methodology

## What this measures

This series measures the number of Singapore dollars required to purchase one US dollar in the spot foreign exchange market. It reflects the daily exchange rate between the two currencies.

## Why it matters

Exchange rates affect the cost of goods and services traded between countries, the value of foreign revenue or expenses, and the competitiveness of operations in different markets. Organizations with exposure to Singapore or the US need to monitor this rate to assess financial risk, plan cross-border transactions, and evaluate the impact of currency moves on margins and pricing.

## How to read it

A rise means the Singapore dollar weakens relative to the US dollar, making US goods more expensive for buyers in Singapore and Singaporean goods cheaper for US buyers. A fall indicates the Singapore dollar strengthens. Compare current levels to recent ranges or benchmarks relevant to your contracts or hedges to gauge exposure.

## What it does not say

This series does not indicate why the exchange rate moved, what central banks or markets expect in the future, or the volume of currency traded. It reflects the spot rate at a point in time, not forward rates or hedging costs.

## Source

The data originate from the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and are published as FRED series DEXSIUS. Palanor pulls this series from the FRED API nightly.
