Biogen Revenue, Trailing Twelve Months

Latest

Methodology

## What this measures

Biogen's total revenue over the trailing twelve months, in billions of U.S. dollars, as reported in its SEC filings. One reading per fiscal quarter, dated the quarter end.

## Why it matters

Revenue is the plainest measure of a drugmaker's size and momentum: new launches, patent expiries and price changes all show up in it within a few quarters.

## How to read it

A rising line means the company sold more over the last year than over the year before. Twelve-month totals smooth out quarterly swings from stocking, rebates and one-off payments.

## What it does not say

It is total revenue, not revenue by drug or region, and not profit. It includes royalty, collaboration and other revenue where the company reports them in total revenue. Acquisitions add revenue without any growth in the underlying business.

## Source

SEC EDGAR XBRL company facts (data.sec.gov), from the company's 10-Q and 10-K filings: us-gaap Revenues, or RevenueFromContractWithCustomerExcludingAssessedTax where that is the tag the company files (the most recently filed revenue tag; older tags fill earlier periods). U.S. government data, public domain. Synced weekly by Palanor's edgar-revenue-sync job. Quarters are derived from the filings' year-to-date figures (the fourth quarter is the annual figure less nine months); twelve-month totals are the sum of four quarters. Calculated by Palanor.
