Protest — share of world news

Methodology
## What this measures
The share of all news articles GDELT processes each day whose story cluster carries the theme PROTEST, weighted by the number of articles in each cluster, in percent.
## Why it matters
Protest is the most visible form of social pressure on governments and companies. A sustained rise in coverage signals a period when unrest, strikes and blockades are more likely to touch operations and policy.
## How to read it
Higher means more of the world's news is about it. Daily values are noisy; read a 7- or 30-day average, and compare against its own history rather than against other themes.
## What it does not say
It measures coverage, not the number or size of protests, and a single large movement can dominate it. GDELT tags themes by keyword and pattern matching, so some articles are tagged loosely.
