Methodology
## What this measures
The federal money announced in the deals that give the U.S. government an equity stake in I-Pulse, in millions of dollars, as it stood at the end of each month. Deals: silicon carbide power semiconductor research award (Commerce, CHIPS R&D Office, announced June 25, 2026, signed).
## Why it matters
Since mid-2025 the U.S. government has taken equity in companies it funds: shares or warrants in exchange for CHIPS Act grants and research awards, preferred stock from the Department of War, warrants for loan changes, and a golden share in a merger. That makes the government a shareholder in a set of listed companies, and the market's reading of those companies a measure of how the stakes are faring. The amount shows how much public money is tied to each stake.
## How to read it
Millions of dollars. Compare companies on the same date (the chart "U.S. Government Equity Stakes by Company" ranks them). The series only changes when a deal is announced or revised.
## How it is built
The amount is the federal money announced in the deal that carries the stake, as the primary source states it: a CHIPS Act grant or research award, a Department of War equity or preferred-stock purchase, or the government's contribution to a joint venture. It is not the market value of the stake. A company with more than one deal shows their sum; the series steps up in the month each deal is announced (the current month runs to date). Stakes with no announced dollar amount (warrants granted for loan changes, a golden share, a participation interest, a stake granted at no cost) are listed in the table but have no amount series.
## What it does not say
An announced amount is not money paid: letters of intent can change before a final award, and awards are often paid in milestones. It is not the value of the stake, which the sources often do not give. Palanor reviews the table by hand; a deal enters when a federal release, a company release or an SEC filing announces it.
## History
One point a month from the month of the company's first deal: the amount changes only when a deal is announced or revised, so a company first announced in 2026 has a short series by design, and there is no earlier history to backfill.
