## What this measures
The share of articles in ten major newspapers that mention both geopolitical risk (war, military buildups, nuclear threats, terrorism) and India. It measures media attention to geopolitical events involving India.
## Background
Country GPR: share of articles mentioning geopolitical risk and India.
The Geopolitical Risk index counts articles about adverse geopolitical events and threats (war, military buildups, nuclear threats, terrorism) as a share of all articles in ten major newspapers, via automated text search. 100 is the 1985–2019 average. Threats and acts are separate sub-indexes; the eight categories are each category's share of all articles, in percent; the country indexes count articles that mention both geopolitical risk and that country.

## Why it matters
Elevated geopolitical attention to India can signal military tension, border disputes, or regional security shifts that may disrupt supply chains, investment sentiment, or regulatory stability for organizations with exposure to South Asia. Sustained spikes may precede policy changes, capital flight, or delays in cross-border operations.
## How to read it
A higher share means more coverage of geopolitical risk linked to India; a lower share means less. Compare India's share to other countries or to the overall GPR index to assess whether India is a focal point of geopolitical concern.
## What it does not say
It does not measure the severity of events, only the volume of media coverage. It does not predict conflict outcomes, economic impact, or whether heightened attention reflects new threats or sustained reporting on existing situations.
