Methodology
## What this measures
The share of people aged 16 and over in Germany who in a typical week never do any physical activity outside work. The survey asks how often people do physical activities other than their work. Percent of people. Asked in the EU statistics on income and living conditions (EU-SILC) health module in 2022 and 2025; each wave is dated December 31.
## Why it matters
Physical inactivity is a leading risk factor for heart disease, diabetes, some cancers and poor mental health. How active a population is shapes future health spending, workforce health and demand for sport, fitness and active travel.
## How to read it
Higher means more people are inactive outside work. Compare countries within the same wave, and a country between the two waves. Countries differ widely, so the EU figure hides large gaps.
## What it does not say
It is self-reported and counts how often, not how long or how hard. Activity at work is excluded. Some country values are flagged by Eurostat as estimates or of low reliability, and a survey change can move a country between waves; only two waves exist so far, so it is not yet a trend.
