Methodology
## What this measures
The share of children aged 12–23 months in Nigeria who received a first dose of measles-containing vaccine. Yearly from 1984.
## Why it matters
Measles is one of the most contagious diseases, so outbreaks follow quickly when coverage slips. The WHO puts the coverage needed to stop it spreading at about 95% with two doses, which makes this series an early warning for outbreaks.
## How to read it
Higher is better. Annual, dated December 31 of the reference year. This is the first dose; the second dose, given later, is not in this series.
## What it does not say
It says nothing about the second dose, and averages hide pockets of low coverage where outbreaks start. The estimates combine administrative reports and surveys and are revised each July.
