Share of World GDP, Historical (Maddison): Venezuela
Latest
0.12% of world GDP
Methodology
## What this measures
Venezuela's share of world GDP, in percent: its Maddison GDP (GDP per person times population) divided by the world's. A Palanor calculation from the Maddison Project Database 2023.
## Why it matters
Shares of world output tell the story of economic power: the long dominance of China and India, Europe's rise after 1820, the American century and Asia's return.
## How to read it
Percent of world GDP in 2011 international dollars. Points exist only where the database gives a world total: 1820, 1850, 1870, 1900, 1920, 1940, every tenth year from 1950 to 2010 and each year from 2015. Dated December 31.
## What it does not say
There is no world total before 1820 in this release, so no share either. The world total includes the database's estimates for countries with missing data, so shares can move when a large country is re-estimated.
