India · Bank Regulatory Capital to Risk-Weighted Assets (IMF FSI)

Latest

17.79%

Methodology

## What this measures

Deposit takers' total regulatory capital as a percent of risk-weighted assets. India, quarterly.

## Why it matters

Capital is the loss-absorbing cushion. A falling ratio means less room to absorb bad loans before lending has to shrink.

## How to read it

Higher is safer. Regulatory minimums are around 8–10.5% under Basel III, plus buffers.

## What it does not say

Compiled by national authorities under the IMF's FSI guide; accounting and supervisory rules differ across countries, and coverage of the banking system varies.

## Source

International Monetary Fund, Financial Soundness Indicators (FSI), Core and Additional Indicators, read from the IMF data API (api.imf.org, dataflow IMF.STA/FSIC). https://data.imf.org/ Attribution: Source: International Monetary Fund.
