Methodology

## What this measures

Ireland's net international investment position, external financial assets minus external liabilities, at the end of each quarter, in US dollars billions.

## Why it matters

Shows whether a country is a net lender to or borrower from the rest of the world, and how fast that is changing.

## How to read it

Positive is a net creditor, negative a net debtor. Quarter-to-quarter moves are mostly valuation (markets and exchange rates).

## What it does not say

Positions are partly at market value.
